Just Where Can a Common-Sense Conservative Turn These Days?
It is pretty much a given that no right-thinking Conservative American can support our current president. His Progressive/Socialist agenda blatantly flies in the face of our Founding Fathers’ vision for this great nation. In a land of the two party political system, this leaves very little for us to hang our hats on. In reality, just what are our alternatives? Sadly, the current national political landscape gives us little hope or consolation.
The obvious alternative would be to support the Republicans. After all, aren’t they supposed to be the party of the God-fearing, patriotic, conservative Americans? To the average Conservative, it seems to me that platform has developed a serious case of dry-rot over the last few years. From deficit spending to corporate welfare, it appears that the only way to tell the difference between most Republicans and Democrats is to look at the letter that follows their name on the TV screen.
The rise of the Tea Party Movement is the culmination of hardworking, American citizens finally reaching the breaking point with American politics. While some detractors attempt to score points by making a false racist claim about the timing of the tea party's formation, the seeds of the tea party movement began with the passing of TARP under Republican George W. Bush and the Democrat-led Congress. It coalesced when roughly the same amount was spent only a few months later on a so-called “stimulus.” The fact is that we would exist regardless of who holds the office of the President today. Career politicians are so steeped in the status-quo manner of politics that they simply cannot see the writing on the wall.
With the election of November, 2010, one would think that they might have gotten the message. Americans sent a new breed of representative to Washington, DC for the sole purpose of changing the way our government works. The days of “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” is are gone. The only backs these elected “representatives” should be concerned with is are those of their constituents.
We sent representatives like Marco Rubio, Allen West and others to the House of Representatives not to play but to fight for us. So far they are doing a good job, but it is quite obvious that the leadership refuses to give way. This means that it will be up to us to send reinforcements come November.
If nothing else, the latest circus created by Speaker Boehner and the Republicans in the House over the payroll tax relief extension should sound a huge alarm to common sense Americans. Someone please explain just what the heck that was all about? Time and time again throughout this year the leadership in the House has walked away with egg on their face. From the 2011 budget continuing resolution, to the debt ceiling debate, to extension of the Social Security Fund robbery issue (aka the Payroll Tax Cut), all that was accomplished was that American politics became fodder for the late-night talk show hosts.
Frankly, I am ashamed of Speaker Boehner's “leadership” of the United States House of Representatives. He is an example of everything that is wrong with politics. He did not obtain this coveted leadership position through examples of courage or bold action; he obtained it through connections and being owed favors. In these times, America is crying out for leadership. Teary-eyed wimps like John Boehner who sell out the American people almost every time are a dime a dozen.
So what is our alternative? The current spectrum of GOP Candidates leaves much to be desired. It is generally accepted that Romney will become the candidate that will go up against Obama in 2012. Why? Because it is his turn – just as it was McCain’s turned in 2008. These old dogs play the game long enough and they know that their turn will eventually come around. Why can’t the parties understand that we are tired of the game and we want real change?! One other option is to go with a third party. History has proven that tactic only serves to divide the electorate and we still end up with an undesirable result – four more years of Obama socialism. No… a third party is not the answer.
So what is the answer? It is that Americans must do their homework and know who these candidates are. We cannot simply trust the campaign literature or TV ads, or even media reports. We must personally look into the backgrounds and voting records of each candidate – national, state and local – and elect true Conservatives regardless of what letter follows their name.
We must also start growing future conservative national candidates from the local government up. Think about it… how many senators or congressmen were elected without holding any other elected office? The answer is none of them. From state representative to Governor, most have held a local elected office sometime. That is precisely why local government is so important.
As 2011 comes to an end and 2012 sits waiting around the corner, we patriotic Americans must prepare for what is to come. Gather our army of volunteers. Recruit good candidates for local seats and work tirelessly to get them elected. Do our homework on the candidates and spread the information to all voters using what ever means are at our disposal.
Many in politics have written off the 2010 election as a fluke. They do not believe that we can maintain our momentum or even grow it. We know differently. But, since they cannot seem to get the message we are going to have to prove to them once again that the government of the People and by the People is just that. It has taken more than 100 years to get to this point. It may take 100 years or more to reverse course, but we are Americans. We do not waver in the face of difficult
challenges. We overcome them. This task will be no different.
